Employment Programs
People with mental illness face more barriers when obtaining employment than most others. The least of which is STIGMA!
At Potential Place, we see our role as the 'Accessibility Ramp' that provides members with a smooth transition back into the workplace. We believe that, given the right environment, ALL people with a mental illness CAN and DO become productive and contributing citizens.
When most members first come to Potential Place they have an uneven work history, with gaps in their employment. We help members develop their "Soft Skills". This enables them to not just obtain a position but also and more importantly, to continue to work at a manageable capacity.
Collaborating with partners in the business community, Potential Place is able to give people suffering from mental illness the chance to work in the competitive job market, receive the support they need to stay on the job, get paid a competitive wage and ultimately improve their self-confidence.
Potential Place offers its members a wide-range of employment opportunities to match every interest. Our members engage in our “Work-Ordered Day” activities alongside of staff to continue to develop their self-confidence, their energy and their ability to handle structure. We utilize personal relationships and efficient work ethics to assist those members that will help them to easily re-integrate back into the workforce. Transitional Employment provides members with part-time, entry-level employment opportunities and the ongoing support they may need to stay on the job. We feel that Transitional Employment is not just about the tasks of the job, but also about maintaining a “working” ethic. We also provide assistance for Supported or Independent Employment opportunities, as we believe that this also provides members the self-confidence to eventually obtain permanent employment.
